Chroma Series

This series presents combinations of brilliant and highly saturated colors in a very clear form, revealing the effects of placing colors in a direct contrast. I have always been especially interested in the manner color perception is affected by neighboring colors, which was brilliantly illustrated by the works of Johannes Itten in the early 20th century. I love placing colors together to see how they “talk to each other”.

In the Chroma Series I have used a horizontal format with contrasting vertical elements to elicit the emotion of color combinations with simplicity of form. The common format of the paintings allows them to be paired or even displayed in a threesome, resulting in an exceptionally harmonious grouping. Future additions to this series will maintain the compatible format with some variations in the vertical structures.
